Job Title:        Steam Lead (Chief Steam Engineer)
Location:        Meota Facility
Reports to:     Facility Manager

The Steam Lead will assist the Facility Manager in day to day troubleshooting tasks for the facility and implementing Serafina’s safety program. They will be responsible for assisting field staff with maintenance activities, mentoring staff during the completion of their training and assisting with the implementation of Serafina’s Management of Change Program. 

The Steam Lead will be responsible for the operations of the Water Treatment System, 5X 90 mm BTU OTSG’s, and the Utilities area for the facility.  This position will be the designated Chief Steam Engineer for the facility and will be required to full fill their duties as per the Saskatchewan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulations.  This position works closely with the operating staff to ensure that all site equipment is operated and maintained safely, efficiently and in compliance to all applicable legislation. The individual must be highly motivated and able to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Ensuring all pressure and process equipment complies with current engineering standards and TSASK Legislation
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Group to manage the site Asset’s Integrity Management Program, this includes participating in weekly work order meetings as well as scope defining meetings for Preventive Maintenance programs.
  • Provide input to the Management of Change process and future Development Projects to optimize plant efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S regulations
  • Provide input for budget forecasting and plant budget management 
  • Provide input into the development of staff as per the operations training program 
  • Support Serafina’s Safety Management Plan, tasks include; collaborate with vendors to ensure they are following Serafina’s HSE practices, closeout of Hazard id’s, support HSE personal during incident investigations, and perform regular site inspections 
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Ability to provide oversight, guidance and training to employees    

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • First Class Power Engineering Certificate valid in the province of Saskatchewan. 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Minimum 10 years SAGD operations experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Must be familiar with operations of Once Through Steam Generators
  • Must be familiar with Multimedia Filters and Sodium Zeolite softener systems
  • Team player with strong leadership, interpersonal, and mentorship skills
  • Proven experience as supervisor or relevant role
  • Written communication skills include the ability to prepare correspondence, proposals, and the ability to outline procedures
  • Committed to best practices in Health, Safety and Environmental management
  • Familiar with reading facility drawings and understanding equipment specifications
  • Must be able to take initiative to implement and follow through on improvements
  • Self-motivated, open-minded and results oriented
  • Conduct business in a professional, ethical way with a focus on community responsibility

Job Title:         Development Engineer
Location:        Calgary, AB
Reports to:     Manager, Asset Development

The Development Engineer is accountable to support the Asset Development Manager responsible for the development of Serafina’s thermal assets.  The Development Engineer is responsible to support the building and maintaining of the overall asset development plans.  A core competency of this position requires the ability to pull multiple disciplinary technical and non-technical information together to achieve optimal development plans for producing and future assets.

 Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for the assembly and maintenance of assigned asset development plans and to support coordination of asset teams to achieve the asset mandates, including the following:
    • Request and integrate baseline well production forecasts, capital projections, infrastructure, and regulatory costs as well as schedules 
    • Collaborate with the asset team design, construct an optimized full-life development plan
    • Create and maintain a fully integrated asset team schedule and budget at the appropriate level, ensuring all functional inputs are updated to align to the current development plan
    • Support regularly scheduled asset team meetings 
    • Provide input to set asset team goals in support of the asset mandates, and on any changes needed to the development plan 
    • Provide input on risks and opportunities from asset development perspective
    • Facilitate effective execution of asset team activities in pursuit of achieving the mandates
    • Optimize development plan outputs through scenario analysis and with consideration given to corporate guidance (i.e. capital availability, production targets) and in support of executive requests, strategic options, and identified opportunities
    • Initiate development plan reviews and optimization
    • Manage meetings specific to the progression of the development plan and ensure inclusivity of any affected disciplines
  • Lead and integrate asset team member input to define scope of execution programs (i.e. strat wells, SAGD wells, associated facilities)
  • Openly share knowledge and technical findings with fellow team members to ensure alignment on technical work and advance collective team expertise
  • Proactively engage and collaborate closely with other functions 
  • Support continuous improvement of asset development tools
  • Support the creation and maintenance of common-form asset reports for each asset
  • Advance subsurface regulatory applications
  • Support business opportunity planning and execution of asset infrastructure components including raw water, utilities, and community/stakeholder engagement 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum 10 years related industry experience related with development aspects of thermal projects
  • University Degree in Engineering; registration or eligibility for membership with APEGA
  • Experience in reserve calculations, economics, and thermal development (SAGD) 
  • Experience with surface and subsurface thermal oil and gas development
  • Experience with project management including scheduling, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Advanced ability to use Microsoft Office including Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project, MS teams
  • Excellent analytical, integration and dynamic capabilities
  • Goal-oriented and capable of meeting aggressive deadlines in a dynamic environment

Engineering Technologist, Production & Completions (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)

Job Title:        Engineering Technologist, Production & Completions (1 Year Fixed Term)
Location:        Calgary, AB
Reports to:     Manager, Production & Completions

The Engineering Technologist will be an active member of the production engineering team. The successful candidate will provide key support in efforts to optimize production and development of the company’s heavy oil thermal assets. 

As an Engineering Technologist, the individual will have sound knowledge and demonstrated experience in SAGD subsurface activities. The selected candidate will utilize their skillset to aide the standardization of subsurface workflows and improve overall workflow efficiencies.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

•    Assist the production engineering team in monitoring, analysis and reporting on well production
•    Maintain inventory management database
•    Conduct analysis on downtime, pump run life, and facility prorations
•    Support vendor management including comply works, contract documentation and quotes
•    Coordinate abandonment and reclamation obligation quarterly update
•    Perform data analytics and generate reports on operating cost reviews
•    Receive and verify details of all well servicing invoices, escalating as needed
•    Encourage standardization of workflows across current and future assets
•    Identify opportunities and implement strategies to improve workflow efficiencies
•    Maintain schematic drawings and completion program templates

Desired Skills and Experience: 

•    Registered Certified Engineering Technologist
•    Minimum 4 years of related industry experience, thermal heavy oil experience preferred
•    Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment, both supporting other team members and contributing to the effectiveness and reliability of the team
•    Demonstrated time management skills for achieving short and long term deadlines
•    Highly organized with excellent analytical abilities
•    Experience with PI Historian, GeoScout, IsolERA and WellView strongly preferred
•    Excellent knowledge of Excel using advanced functions
•    Strong command of SQL and experience in database administration
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Serafina Energy Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position: 

Job Title:        Plant Operator (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)
Location:        Meota West or Meota East
Reports to:     Facility Manager

The Plant Operator is accountable to the Facility Manager. The Plant Operator will be required to work in multiple areas of the facility and may move between positions. The individual must be highly motivated and able to work in a team environment. 

This position will be required to work a 7 on 7 off schedule. The shift will be days or nights based on business needs.

Please note:  This is a local position.  Relocation expenses will not be covered.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of your assigned equipment in wells, battery, steam or control room
  • Set an example in safety leadership with Serafina’s employees and contractors
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and resolve process problems
  • Monitor, control plant conditions, and maintain proper documentation including: safety and environmental reports, operator logs, and maintenance records
  • Perform housekeeping, performance monitoring, and maintenance activities in the plant site
  • Understand and perform safety, environmental and regulatory responsibilities such as hazard identification, equipment lock out, emergency response, and implement safe working procedures
  • Ensure effective communication with fellow operations team members as well as maintenance, and supervisory staff

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum 3 years thermal operating experience
  • 3rd class Power Engineering Certificate or higher
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Interpret facility drawings (i.e. PID’s, H&M Balance sheets, line lists, and shutdown keys is an asset)
  • Knowledge of Rotoflex’s and downhole positive displacement pumps is an asset
  • Familiarity in writing Safe Work Permits and the use of field level hazard assessments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, and Word)
  • A strong team player, capable of working closely with a variety of groups but also a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, open-minded and results orientated
  • High awareness and understanding of potential process safety incidents
  • Delta V DCS familiarity is an asset
