Job Title:        Project Engineer (1 Year Fixed Term)
Location:        Calgary, AB/Lloydminster SK
Reports to:     Manager – Major Projects

The Project Engineer will assist the Project Manager with project functions and will drive technical aspects of the project while ensuring code and regulatory compliance. The Senior Project Engineer must be motivated, committed, and able to work in a fast-paced environment within a high-performance team. Multitasking and priority setting skills will be necessary to manage the schedule driven workload.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary contact for the multi-disciplinary project engineering deliverables and effort
  • Ensure facilities follow all applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices 
  • Review technical documents, quality plans, and safety plans
  • Development of project cost estimates and schedules
  • Meeting preparation, participation and facilitation for technical reviews, information sharing, and planning
  • Project controls and progress reporting
  • Monitor and enforce the corporate Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)
  • Facilitate and participate in system walkdowns and handover
  • Provide technical support for commissioning and operations
  • Preparation and collation of contract documents

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in a project related role in the Oil and Gas industry
  • PMP, P.ENG. and/or Asset Certified
  • Familiar with SAGD facilities, infrastructure and pipelines
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements in Saskatchewan
  • Proven successful history working on a fast-tracked project
  • Experience working with engineering and construction contractors
  • Proven experience working in all phases of project development and execution
  • Familiar with PMI practices and principals

Steam Lead (Chief Steam Engineer)

North Battleford, SK

Serafina Energy Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position: 

Job Title:        Steam Lead (Chief Steam Engineer) 
Location:        Edam or Meota, SK
Reports to:     Facility Manager

This unique opportunity will support the Commissioning team and participate in the start-up activities of the 8000 bbl/day Meota West 2 SAGD facility.   This individual will also support the Ready for Operations activities required to safely transition the plant to an operating facility.

The Steam Lead will assist the Facility Manager in the day to day troubleshooting tasks for the facility and implementing Serafina’s safety program. They will be responsible for assisting field staff with maintenance activities, mentoring staff during the completion of their training and assisting with the implementation of Serafina’s Management of Change Program.

The Steam Lead will be responsible for the operations of the High Lift Pump Station, Steam Operations (4X 90 mm BTU OTSG’s), and Utilities for the facility.  This position will be the designated Chief Steam Engineer for the facility and will be required to full fill their duties as per the Saskatchewan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulations.  This position works closely with the operating staff to ensure that all site equipment is operated and maintained safely, efficiently and in compliance to all applicable legislation. The individual must be highly motivated and able to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring all pressure and process equipment complies with current engineering standards and TSASK Legislation
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Group to manage the site Asset’s Integrity Management Program, this includes participating in weekly work order meetings as well as scope defining meetings for preventive maintenance programs.
  • Provide input to Management of Change and Development Projects to optimize plant efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S regulations
  • Provide input for budget forecasting and plant budget management
  • Provide input into the development of staff as per the operations training program. Opportunity for input into the design, construction and implementation of future projects 
  • Support Serafina’s Safety Management Plan, tasks include; collaborate with vendors to ensure they are following Serafina’s HSE practices, closeout of Hazard id’s, support HSE personal during incident investigations, and perform regular site inspections
  • Support the Commissioning team during the start-up of the facility
  • Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching
  • Ability to provide oversight, guidance and training to employees             

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Second Class Power Engineering Certificate valid in the province of Saskatchewan
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Minimum 5 years of SAGD operations experience
  • Must be familiar with operations of Once Through Steam Generators
  • Must be familiar with Multimedia Filters and Sodium Zeolite softener systems
  • Team player with strong leadership, interpersonal, and mentorship skills
  • Proven experience as supervisor or relevant role
  • Written communication skills include the ability to prepare correspondence, proposals, and the ability to outline procedures
  • Committed to best practices in Health, Safety and Environmental management
  • Familiar with reading facility drawings and understanding equipment specifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Must be able to take initiative to implement and follow through on improvements
  • Self-motivated, open-minded and results-oriented
  • Conduct business in a professional, ethical way with a focus on community responsibility
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook applications

Control Room Operator (Meota, SK)

North Battleford, SK

Serafina Energy Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position: 

Job Title:         Control Room Operator 
Location:         Edam or Meota, SK
Reports to:     Facility Manager

This unique opportunity will support the Commissioning team and participate in the start-up activities of the Meota West 2 8000 bbl/day SAGD facility. This individual will be a part of the Ready for Operations activities required to safely transition the plant to an operating facility

The Control Room Operator is accountable to the Facility Manager.  The Control Room Operator will be responsible for ensuring that the facility operates safely, and efficiently with minimal downtime. The individual must be highly motivated, use good judgment, and able to communicate within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Support in the completion of all pre-start-up deliverables for operations staff prior to commissioning. Deliverables include but are not limited to operating procedures, provide input on safe work procedures, critical asset identification, alarm rationalization, critical equipment PM planning
  • Participate in commissioning plant facilities
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the equipment from the control room. These areas include steam, utilities, de-oiling, oil treating, water treatment, steam generation and well pad production.
  • Support turnaround planning activities
  • Set an example in safety leadership with Serafina’s employees and contractors
  • Troubleshoot and repair/resolve process problems
  • Monitor and control plant conditions and maintain proper documentation including safety and environmental reports, operator logs, and maintenance records
  • Understand and perform safety, environmental and regulatory responsibilities such as hazard identification, equipment lockout, emergency response, and implement safe working procedures
  • Ensure effective communication with operations, maintenance, and supervisory staff

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum 5 years of thermal operating experience with a combination of plant/field experience
  • A strong understanding of plant processes used in SAGD facilities
  • 2nd class Power Engineer Certificate, individual with a 3rd class will also be considered for the position
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, open-minded and results orientated

HSE Field Coordinator (Fixed Term Contract)

Serafina Energy Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title:         HSE Field Coordinator (Fixed Term Contract)
Location:         Edam, Saskatchewan
Reports To:     HSE Team Lead

The HSE Field Coordinator will be accountable to the HSE Team Lead and will interact with various project teams within Serafina. The HSE Field Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining and facilitating Serafina's Safety Management Program. The focus of this position will include site observations, contractor spot checks, COVID-19 protocols, and managing environmental concerns.

The successful candidate will have experience in HSE site activities and the continual improvement of safety management programs. Be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the company, as well as external vendors and contractors.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct on location inspections and safety observations including meeting with supervisors to discuss any potential problems
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents, root cause identification and recommendations of corrective action, as well as continuous improvement to HSE initiatives
  • Understand and remain updated on current health, safety and environmental legislation including changes and industry best practices
  • Perform hazard assessments including information gathering to update safe work procedures
  • Maintain and analyze Health Safety & Environmental statistics through Serafina’s HSE database, Maximo.
  • Ensure all incidents, hazard ID’s and near miss reporting is properly classified
  • Support the training of Serafina personnel in Emergency Preparedness and Response as per the Serafina ERP Manual
  • Build and maintain a relationship with employees and contractors
  • Aid in preparation and participate in safety meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a field HSE role within the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation and standards in the province of Saskatchewan
  • Knowledge of Saskatchewan Environmental Regulations would be considered an asset
