Job Title:        Maintenance Planner Scheduler
Location:        North Battleford Area
Reports to:     Maintenance Foreman
Schedule:       5 days on, 2 days off (M-F)

This role requires a self-motivated, highly professional, personable individual who demonstrates strong business acumen, clear concise communication, organizational skills, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with significant growth opportunities. This individual must interact and foster collaboration between all stakeholders.  Safety, reliability and efficiencies are predominant areas of focus.

Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler coordinates labour resources, material and assigns them to execute daily planned and unplanned maintenance activities within the facilities. 

The Maintenance Planner Scheduler must demonstrate strong knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling processes and will be expected to become proficient in the use of Maximo. The Maintenance Planner Scheduler will work collaboratively with the Maintenance and Operations teams to develop, maintain and communicate a daily work schedule as well as update work order statuses. 

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Ensure effective communication with operations, maintenance, and supervisory staff
  • Ensure all pressure and process equipment maintenance complies with current engineering standards and TSASK Legislation
  • Engage operations leads for approval of daily work orders, defining job scope, scheduling and closeout of daily work orders
  • Provide updates to operations staff regarding the completion of ongoing maintenance work orders
  • Monitor and maintain maintenance records for equipment
  • Direct maintenance staff for timely and efficient completion of planned and unplanned maintenance tasks
  • Create and communicate a daily work order schedule to operations staff
  • Facilitate meetings for weekly work order reviews with operations staff, discussing ongoing activities, and discussing proposed work for the upcoming period

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working closely with a variety of groups but also a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, open-minded and results orientated
  • Minimum 3 years of planning/scheduling experience
  • Working knowledge of a Computer Centralized Maintenance System (CCMS) (Maximo is an asset)
  • Experience with Thermal Heavy Oil and/or SAGD maintenance planning is an asset but not required
  • Committed to best practices in health, safety and environmental management
  • Ethical business conduct and community responsibility
  • Self-motivated, open-minded and results oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • High School Diploma

Rail Logistics Scheduler

Job Title:            Rail Logistics Scheduler
Location:            Calgary, AB
Reports to:         Manager, Marketing

The Rail Logistics Scheduler utilizes sound judgment to coordinate the implementation of strategies to deliver and optimize Serafina’s heavy oil sales in a complex marketing environment. The successful candidate will support daily operational and logistical requirements related to oil scheduling and delivery via rail.

The successful candidate is a critical thinker with strong analytical skills, clear concise communication, organizational skills, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. This individual will have a solid logistical background dealing with trucking and rail.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Schedule physical movements of heavy oil via unit-train rail
  • Work closely with internal and external groups on all railcar movements
  • Proactively support the Marketing Team and develop a detailed understanding producing assets and logistics
  • Communicate regularly with customers and facilities
    • Professionally address all inquiries and questions
    • Distribute Bill of Landing to customers in a timely manner
    • Work with internal marketers to find potential sales opportunities
    • Monitor customer performance against contracted volumes and facilitate required conversations focusing on customer service
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound rail shipments. Track, fleet coordination looking for optimization opportunities, and communication with receiving/shipping terminals and counterparties
  • Provide solutions and ideas to maximize and improve profit on existing deals as well as explore hidden value and options
  • Liaise with serving railroads to execute shipment of railcars daily
  • On-call requirement for after hours and weekends
  • Assist in negotiating freight rates and service levels with railroad service providers to minimize shipping times, costs and optimize the sales and marketing plan
  • Assist in developing models to forecast monthly product movements
  • Assist in the scheduling and planning of trucking
  • Assist in the management of loading operations, inventory positions, bills of lading and truck ticket balancing
  • Assist in the management of US and Canadian customs documentation
  • Incorporate railcar management software with internal data capture systems
  • Work with internal marketer to find opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies, provide ad hoc reporting as required

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • University Degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting preferred
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in rail transportation management
  • Professional, results-oriented style, with the ability to work independently, prioritize work, multi-task, maintain confidentially and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment
  • Previous experience or a willingness to be part of a team that is available to respond to logistics issues at all times
  • Rail experience: specifically, crude by rail and/or unit train experience considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Rail fleet management systems is considered an asset
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills - advanced Excel preferred
  • Detail oriented with very strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively

Job Title:        Senior Financial Analyst (12 Month Contract)
Location:        Calgary, Alberta
Reports to:     Manager, Finance

Serafina Energy is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Finance team.  This position will focus on preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, acting as a point of contact for the Company’s external auditors, supporting the Manager, Finance, with the preparation of presentation materials, and occasionally assisting the Manager, Finance in other special purpose reporting and analysis requirements.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  •  Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting functions including:
    • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and working papers, including the deferred income tax provision, decommissioning liabilities, mark-to-market calculations for derivative instruments and share-based payment expense calculations
    • Working collaboratively with various internal departments to develop meaningful analysis of operating results
    • Preparation of monthly and quarterly analysis of consolidated operating results for communication to senior management
  • Participate in the quarterly and annual financial reporting process, including:
    • Preparation of IFRS compliant quarterly and annual financial statements 
    • Preparation of quarterly and annual MD&A in accordance with regulatory requirements
    • Liaise with and provide support to external auditors, including responding to queries and preparation of working papers for annual audit
  • Interpret and apply knowledge of IFRS accounting standards to ensure correct accounting treatment
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various departments to understand and analyze the impact of new transactions on financial results 
  • Preparation of certain regulatory filings including Statistics Canada, ESTMA and Carbon Tax Reporting
  • Other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Degree and CPA/CA designation required
  • 5 – 10 years progressive financial analysis and accounting experience
  • Experience with an E&P company is considered an asset; candidates with experience in the Canadian oil and gas industry, particularly SAGD, are preferred for this role
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
  • Experience with Qbyte and other P2 software would be considered an asset 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
