Job Title:        Lead Operator, Crude by Rail 
Location:        North Battleford, SK
Reports to:     Facility Manager, CBR

The Lead Operator is accountable to the CBR Facility Manager. The Lead Operator will initially support with the commissioning and start-up of the Crude by Rail Facility in the North Battleford area. The facility will target to transport 20,000 – 30,000 bbls/day of crude.   Once the project is up and running the Lead Operator will support the Facility Manager in ensuring that the facility operates safely, and efficiently with minimal down time. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, use good judgment, and be able to communicate within a multi-disciplinary team 

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Support in the completion of all pre-start-up deliverables for operations staff prior to commissioning. Deliverables include but are not limited to: operating procedures, provide input on safe work procedures, critical asset identification, critical equipment PM planning 
  • Participate in commissioning activities 
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility equipment.
  • Ensure tracking and procurement of operational supplies
  • Support maintenance planning activities
  • Participate in Serafina’s maintenance/integrity program for operating facilities
  • Set an example in safety leadership with Serafina’s employees and contractors
  • Support Serafina’s Safety Management Plan as required
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and resolve process problems
  • Monitor and control facility conditions while maintaining proper documentation including: safety and environmental reports, operator logs, and maintenance records
  • Understand and perform safety, environmental and regulatory responsibilities such as hazard identification, equipment lock out, emergency response, and implement safe working procedures
  • Ensure effective communication with all Serafina personnel and departments as well as service providers
  • Ensure and support safe and efficient operation of the Trackmobile and railcar movements
  • Provide guidance, support and training for operating team including control room operators, Trackmobile operators, switchpersons and rail car loaders
  • Support completion of track inspections

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • A minimum of 2 years Railcar Mover operation experience
  • A minimum of 2 years Switchperson experience
  • A minimum of 2 years Railway Track Inspection experience
  • A minimum of 2 years crude by rail experience
  • Team player with strong leadership, interpersonal, and mentorship skills
  • Lead operating experience preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs

Job Title:        Reservoir Engineer (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)
Location:        Calgary, AB
Reports to:     Manager, Reservoir Engineering & Corporate Reserves

The Reservoir Engineer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will play a key role in the subsurface reservoir engineering, well planning and well forecasting, and operating strategies for the company’s thermal heavy oil assets. The candidate will be accountable for all aspects of reservoir engineering to ensure the assets are developed in the most ideal manner and will focus on optimizing the company’s resources through the evaluation of future SAGD well pair plans.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Supporting development of Serafina’s in-situ heavy oil assets
  • Utilization of analogue, analytical, and simulation techniques to generate long-term production forecasts for wells, pads, and assets
  • Ensure Best Practices associated with thermal reservoir modelling are followed including suitable incorporation of geological models
  • Analyzing and history matching of field production data
  • Experience with PVT and special core analysis, results interpretation, and suitable application
  • Recommend strategies for field and well pair optimization based on reservoir performance
  • Simulation studies for depletion planning, production optimization, and opportunity generation
  • Other duties as required

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • 10 years of related industry experience directly involved with reservoir engineering aspects of thermal projects 
  • In depth familiarity with thermal reservoir simulation (CMG Suite)
  • A track record of creativity and innovation in generating and implementing reservoir engineering solutions, especially in a thermal environment
  • Goal-oriented and capable of meeting aggressive deadlines in a collaborative environment

Job Title: Steam Lead (Chief Steam Engineer)
Location: Meota Facility
Reports to: Facility Manager

The Steam Lead will assist the Facility Manager in day-to-day troubleshooting tasks for the facility and implementing Serafina’s safety program. They will be responsible for assisting field staff with maintenance activities, mentoring staff during the completion of their training and assisting with the implementation of Serafina’s Management of Change Program.

The Steam Lead will be responsible for the operations of the Water Treatment System, 5X 90 mm BTU OTSG’s, and the Utilities area for the facility. This position will be the designated Chief Steam Engineer for the facility and will be required to full fill their duties as per the Saskatchewan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulations. This position works closely with the operating staff to ensure that all site equipment is operated and maintained safely, efficiently and in compliance with all applicable legislation. The individual must be highly motivated and able to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring all pressure and process equipment complies with current engineering standards and TSASK Legislation
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Group to manage the site Asset’s Integrity Management Program, this includes participating in weekly work order meetings as well as scope defining meetings for Preventive Maintenance programs.
  • Provide input to the Management of Change process and future Development Projects to optimize plant efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S regulations
  • Provide input for budget forecasting and plant budget management
  • Provide input into the development of staff as per the operations training program
  • Support Serafina’s Safety Management Plan, tasks include; collaborate with vendors to ensure they are following Serafina’s HSE practices, closeout of Hazard id’s, support HSE personal during incident investigations, and perform regular site inspections
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Ability to provide oversight, guidance and training to employees

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • First Class Power Engineering Certificate valid in the province of Saskatchewan.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Minimum 10 years SAGD operations experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Must be familiar with operations of Once Through Steam Generators
  • Must be familiar with Multimedia Filters and Sodium Zeolite softener systems

Job Title:        Maintenance Planner/Scheduler
Location:        North Battleford Area
Reports to:     Maintenance Foreman
Schedule:       5 days on, 2 days off (M-F)

This role requires a self-motivated, highly professional, personable individual who demonstrates strong business acumen, clear concise communication, organizational skills, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with significant growth opportunities. This individual must interact and foster collaboration between all stakeholders.  Safety, reliability and efficiencies are predominant areas of focus.

Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler coordinates labour resources, material and assigns them to execute daily planned and unplanned maintenance activities within the facilities. 

The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler must demonstrate strong knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling processes and will be expected to become proficient in the use of Maximo. The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler will work collaboratively with the Maintenance and Operations teams to develop, maintain and communicate a daily work schedule as well as update work order statuses. 

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Ensure effective communication with operations, maintenance, and supervisory staff
  • Ensure all pressure and process equipment maintenance complies with current engineering standards and TSASK Legislation
  • Engage operations leads for approval of daily work orders, defining job scope, scheduling and closeout of daily work orders
  • Provide updates to operations staff regarding the completion of ongoing maintenance work orders
  • Monitor and maintain maintenance records for equipment
  • Direct maintenance staff for timely and efficient completion of planned and unplanned maintenance tasks
  • Create and communicate a daily work order schedule to operations staff
  • Facilitate meetings for weekly work order reviews with operations staff, discussing ongoing activities, and discussing proposed work for the upcoming period

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working closely with a variety of groups but also a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices

Serafina Energy Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position: 

Job Title:         Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Field Coordinator 
Location:         North Battleford, SK
Reports to:      Team Lead, HSE

The HSE Field Coordinator will be situated at the Edam facility and will be responsible for maintaining and stewarding to the Serafina’s Safety Management Program across all field sites.  The HSE Field Coordinator will interact with various groups within Serafina, including: operations, projects/construction, drilling and completions, and marketing.  

The focus of this position will include site observations, contractor spot checks, COVID-19 protocols, and managing environmental concerns. The successful candidate must effectively communicate with all levels of the company, as well external vendors, and contractors.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Maintain knowledge and proficiency in current safety legislation and industry safety resources.
  • Ensure all tasks performed by our workers have undergone a Formal Hazard Assessment (FHA).
  • Perform hazard assessments including information gathering to update safe work procedures, and support other workers, supervisors and managers in performing hazard assessments by providing information as requested.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents, root cause identification and recommendations of corrective action, as well as continuous improvement to HSE initiatives
  • Ensure all applicable government agencies, industry associations, and/or law enforcement are notified, depending on the type and severity of the incident.
  • Work with applicable parties to determine root cause and appropriate corrective action for incidents
  • Ensure all reports requiring corrective action (e.g. incident reports, various inspection reports, Hazard ID reports, etc.) receive meaningful corrective actions, and that the corrective actions taken are properly documented.
  • Ensure all incidents are properly classified.  Maintain and analyze HSE statistics through Serafina’s HSE database, Maximo.
  • Conduct on location inspections and safety observations including meeting with supervisors to discuss any potential problems.  Build and maintain relationship with employees and contractors.
  • Support activities and resources to effectively train personnel in Emergency Preparedness and Response as per the Serafina ERP Manual
  • Prepare and present monthly safety meetings 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Corporate HSE and/or HSE Team Lead.

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role within the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Relevant degree/certification/diploma is required.
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation and standards in the province of Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge on Saskatchewan Environmental Regulations would be considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
