The Exploitation Engineering Manager will work as part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of Land, Geology, Finance, Production Engineering, and Operations. The successful candidate will play a lead role in the subsurface development planning, execution and operating strategies for the company’s thermal heavy oil assets. The candidate will be accountable to ensure the assets are exploited in the most ideal manner and will focus on optimizing the company’s resources through the evaluation and execution of strat well and SAGD well pair drilling, as well as manage budgets and production forecasting. 

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage subsurface budgets, forecasts, and schedules
  • Lead a team to create and manage field development plans as well as optimization of well plans for existing properties
  • Manage subsurface planning of future assets
  • Oversee exploitation initiatives
  • Liaise with Finance group to generate and optimize corporate budgets

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 10 – 15 years of oil and gas experience with a minimum of 8 years’ experience directly involved with exploitation/reservoir aspects of thermal project development and operations

The Project Development Engineer is responsible and accountable for the initiation and front-end planning phases of new greenfield projects and will support brownfield development where required. The successfully candidate will play an active role in developing comprehensive plans for project de-risking, conceptual engineering, budgeting and conceptual schedule development.

  • Identify, de-risk, and implement front-end engineering work for new thermal projects

Intermediate Project Engineer - Two Positions

Job Title:  Intermediate Project Engineer – Two positions (One Permanent and One 1-year Contract)

Location: Calgary, AB

Reports to: Manager, Projects

Serafina Energy is looking for two Intermediate Project Engineers to join our team. The Project Engineer will support the Sr. Project Engineer or Project Manager with all technical aspects of the project, while ensuring code and regulatory compliance. The Project Engineer must be familiar in all Project Phases, including execution and construction. The successfully candidate must have strong communication skills, be highly motivated, and able to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities of this role include, however, are not limited to:

  • Design and construction of SAGD Thermal Facilities and interconnecting flowlines
  • Design and construction of various types of pipelines
  • Development of cost estimates, cost forecasts and schedules
  • Preparation of weekly, monthly reports and various project presentations
  • Preparation of Design Basis Memorandums (DBM), Project Execution Plans (PEP), and various other technical documents
  • Review pipeline surveys plan for constructability
  • Ensure compliance of piping and mechanical Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings with project specifications, and consistency with Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Review inspection reports, and liaise with the Engineering Contractor for timely resolution of Requests for Information (RFI), Construction Surveillance Reports (CSR), Non-conformance Reports (NCR), Corrective Action Reports (CAR), and Preventive Action Reports (PAR)
  • Participate in model reviews and Hazops
  • Ensure vendor data such as drawings, calculations, fabrication schedules, and turn-over documents are in conformance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications
  • Ensure Engineering Contractors prepare all construction documents, and review for completeness and accuracy
  • Assist in the development and execution (inclusive of monitoring and surveillance) of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
  • Monitor and enforce the corporate Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) requirements

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Project Engineer or related role in the Oil and Gas industry

Job Title: Facility Engineer

Location: Edam Area, Field Base Position

Reports to: Manager, Projects

Serafina Energy is looking for a Facility Engineer to join our team. The Facility Engineer will support the Operations Group with operating assets as well as work with the Project Group for capital projects to handover to Operations. The Facility Engineer must be familiar with SAGD plant operations as well as project execution. The successful candidate must be highly motivated and able to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Plant optimization and debottleneck of SAGD facilities 
  • Steward (Management of Change) MOC Process, as well as execute MOCs
  • Perform monthly AFE accruals  
  • Interface with Marketing Group for crude oil quality testing and monitoring
  • Responsible for plant data capture system for new projects as well as existing assets
  • Review/maintain (Measurement Accounting Reporting and Plan) MARP documents for new and existing facilities

Job Title: Field Survey Supervisor – Independent Consultant

Location: Lloydminster Heavy Oil Area, SK

Reports to: Manager, Reserves and Project Development

The Field Survey Supervisor will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to supervise field survey efforts for new or existing thermal heavy oil assets from the inventory stage through to construction. The Field Survey Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the scouting and surveying of new wells, well pads, pipelines, and facility sites covering all aspects of thermal development including lease siting, legal surveying, environmental assessment field work, and ready for construction activities. The successful candidate will play an active role in developing comprehensive plans for project identification and selection activities.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a company representative, liaising directly with service provider field representatives and land owners if required
  • Liaise with internal departments and service providers to coordinate and oversee field survey work being performed, managing timeline requirements, priorities and survey methodology
  • Contribute to the implementation of industry best practices as it relates to project footprint identification to minimize construction costs and reduce environmental impact
  • Oversee the quality of field survey work performed by the survey field crews
  • Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists and digital data in required formats for internal departments and service providers
  • Provide detailed daily and weekly reports to Manage, Reserves and Project Development or other departments as required on trends/variance/change of scope work
  • Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of Serafina’s safety program
  • Resolve work problems encountered in the field and recommend measures to improve productivity and service to the Manager, Reserve and Project Development

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Geomatics or surveying, is an asset
  • At least 5 years of experience related to civil and pipeline construction
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supervising field crews

This role requires someone that is proactive, capable of managing multiple projects and able to keep busy during down times.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcome guests and direct them appropriately
  • Answer telephone calls at the reception desk, direct all incoming calls to the appropriate department, take messages and screen calls 
  • Coordinate the daily courier and mail requirements of the office
  • Receive mail, organize and deliver to appropriate department or person
  • Manage, track and order all office supplies to ensure the office has sufficient stock of stationary required for day to day operations

  • Lead creation and drafting of development plans for green and brown fields
